Saturday 27th November

St. Alkmund's Church, Whitchurch. Alex and Jane perform a repeat programme from October as part of the Jarualda String Quartet. Beethoven C minor op.18 no.4, Debussy String Quartet and the second performance of Paul Henley String Quartet no.1. Concert start 7.30pm, tickets on the door or from information points in the town. £15 or £10 conc., plus free glass of wine!

Wednesday 17th November

Christ Church, Bayston Hill. Alex (leader) and Jane (Principal viola) perform with the wonderful Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra. The Swash-buckling overture to The Wreckers, by Ethyl Smyth, the fabulous Graham Walker performs the evocative Cello Concerto by Elgar, and we finish with the sunny second symphony of Brahms. 

Saturday 13th November 

Minsterley Parish Hall, 7.30pm. Alex Postlethwaite guest leads the Meole Brace Chamber Orchestra in Brahms' 4th symphony and the delightful but little known first symphony by Saint-Saens to mark the 100yrs this year of his death.

 

 

Friday 29th October

Beethoven C minor op.18 no.4, Debussy String Quartet and the world premier of Paul Henley String Quartet no.1. Concert start 7.30pm, tickets on the door or from Pengwern Books on Fish Street just opposite the church. £15 or £10 conc., plus free glass of wine!

Friday 1st October

St Brides Church, Fleet Street, London 13:15 - free entry. Alex is back leading the wonderful Blaze Ensemble, with Dohnanyi's wonderfully evocative piano sextet. A reviewer for the Budapesti Hírlap, who attended the premiere on 17 June 1935, wrote favorably of the work: "One of the sextet's greatest values is that it is melodically original. Every tune is invented, not borrowed, and not based on a quotation". The last movement in particular calls on influences from jazz as well as Bartok.

Friday 1sth October

St Chads Church, Shrewsbury 12:40. Alex with pianist John Moore perform Brahms' first violin sonata and Smetana's 'Aus der heimat' ('from the homeland') suite. Free entry, come and say hello!

Saturday 11th September

Alex and Jane performing with the Caradoc Ensemble, All Saints Church Wellington 19:30. Baroque and beyond.... Telemann, Bach, Handel and a new composition by Paul Henley for harpsichord.

Saturday 18th September

Alex leads the London Shostakovich Orchestra in a 'play day' - Shostakovich's sixth symphony. As the composer wrote at the time: "The musical character of the Sixth Symphony will differ from the mood and emotional tone of the Fifth Symphony, in which moments of tragedy and tension were characteristic. In my latest symphony, music of a contemplative and lyrical order predominates. I wanted to convey in it the moods of spring, joy, youth". Although there is no formal concert, a scratch performance will take place about 5pm for friends and family of the orchestra.. and perhaps anyone who is just keen to here this amazing piece. click on the link above for more info.

Saturday 25th September

Alex and Jane performing with Shropshire Chamber Orchestra in St Lawrences Church, Church Stretton 19:30. Concert includes Dvorak String Serenade, Vivaldi 'Autumn' and Bach Brandenburg concerto 2. The concert is raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity, in particular through the #TeamCleo fund set up by Alex and Jane (search the hashtag on google for more info). concert includes the premier of 'To the gentle light' a work composed by Paul Henley and dedicated to the memory of Cleo.

Sunday 26th September

Repeat of the concert above, but performed at St Alkmunds Church, Shrewsbury at 15:00.....this time the ticket includes tea and cakes!
